Recreation Ground Benner Lane
West End has a large recreation ground off Benner Lane, which the Parish Council is responsible for. Annual events such as the Village Fete and Windlesham and West End Agricultural and Horticultural show are held on the ground each year but it is also used by three football clubs, including West End Football Club, on a regular basis for training and matches throughout the season, and for cricket on a Saturday during the summer.
A basketball net on a hard surface area and a teen shelter can be found on the edge of the recreation ground towards the Church, and is there to be enjoyed by the older children of the community.
The pond has recently been the subject of considerable clearance thanks to the hard work of some local residents during the very cold winter months. The pond is now a much cleaner environment for all to enjoy, including the fish! Fishing is not permitted between 14th March and 16th June. At the end of 2015 a duck house was launched onto the pond, and is now home to four runner ducks who have appeared from nowhere!
There is plenty of play equipment at the Recreation Ground for all ages. Up to 7's have a separate area with swings, climbing frame, see saw and spinning cup. The junior play area for the up to 12's provides a climbing frame with slide, net and four swings. In 2015 the parish council, together with a funding from Surrey County Council, invested heavily in more dynamic play equipment for most ages (except toddlers). This is situated just outside the enclosed play areas and offers a zip wire, nest swing, climbing net and five seat frame swing. Benches are provided in these areas.
Fitness equipment is also available at the recreation ground providing 5 different activities for you to choose from.
Three tennis courts are located on the recreation ground, which are run by West End Tennis Club. See under local organisations for contact details of the Tennis Club.
A popular addition to the facilities available is a concrete table tennis table situated near the Pavilion. A limited number of bats and balls are available from the Parish Office - alternatively you can bring your own.
West End is extremely fortunate to have such a large recreational area, a place for families to picnic, and enjoy some peace and quiet whilst exercising their dogs. Dogs are allowed off their leads here - but please remember to clear up after them. Bins are provided on the perimeter of the ground near the pond, Streets Heath and Church Road and basketball area. Please use them.
In 2014 the parish council installed 3 bourles pistes close to the pond area for your enjoyment. This is a sport which can be enjoyed by all the family but can also be taken up more seriously in competition. Should anyone wish to set up a club please speak to the parish council regarding usage. A set of boule is available for loan from the parish council office at The Sports Pavilion or please feel free to use your own. Rules of the game can be found here.
The Parish Council also provides a play area off of Rosewood Way, next to the Bowls Club for under 9's. Here the children can enjoy the use of a climbing frame, slide and two toddler swings. Behind the bowls club there is a woodland and open area together with a basketball net on hard standing ground. This is maintained by Surrey Heath Borough Council.
The facilities in both playgrounds are there to be enjoyed by the children of the community for the purpose that they are intended. If there should be any problems with these amenities please contact the Parish Council.
The telephone kiosk, refurbished in October 2015, is now fondly known as the Little Red Leaning Library. A community book swap facility - drop off your good condition unwanted books and swap for something of interest!
